Setting spend limits

Each agent (API key) can have independent daily and monthly spend limits. Set these in Settings → Agents → Budget.

All amounts are in integer cents. A daily limit of 500 means the agent can spend up to $5.00 per calendar day (UTC).

What happens at the limit

When an agent reaches its daily or monthly budget, subsequent run_on_gpu calls are rejected immediately with error code BUDGET_EXCEEDED. No funds are reserved. The agent receives a clear message explaining which limit was hit and when it resets.

Anomaly detection

Volspan monitors spend velocity per agent. If an agent's spend rate exceeds 3x its trailing 7-day average within a 1-hour window, a Slack alert is triggered (if configured). This catches runaway loops before they drain your vault.

Dashboard monitoring

The dashboard shows per-agent spend in real time. You can see daily burn rate, remaining budget, and historical spend charts for each agent. Budget utilization warnings appear at 80% and 95% thresholds.
